Term 252

Smart Quality control system

Project Type: Self-Initiated

Project Description

This senior design project presents a real-time inspection system for punched metal sheets to detect surface scratches. In many factories, inspection is done manually, which leads to missed defects, operator fatigue, inconsistent results, and higher scrap and rework costs. Scratched sheets may continue to later stages, increasing material waste and production losses. The proposed solution is a dual-camera vision inspection station integrated into the production flow. The system captures synchronized images of moving sheets using sensors and controlled lighting. An AI-based image processing program analyzes the images, detects scratches, and generates an immediate accept/reject decision. Results are displayed to the operator and stored in a database for traceability and defect trend analysis.
