Nafikh: Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS)
The Highest TRL Award
Project Type: Self-Initiated
Project Description
This report presents the conceptual design of an add-on Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) intended for SUVs and pickup trucks that do not have factory CTIS. The system continuously monitors tire pressure and adjusts it while driving to match different environments ( sand, rock, highway), improving traction, safety, tire life, and operational efficiency. The design integrates a wheel-end rotary air union for air delivery to rotating wheels, pressure sensors for closed-loop feedback, electronically controlled solenoid valves for inflate/deflate, and a 12 V automotive power interface with protection against vehicle cranking events. A Raspberry Pi-based controller executes a PI pressure regulator and safety logic (over temperature lockout, duty-cycle limiting, and fail-safe states), while an in-cabin display provides an intuitive user interface and diagnostic alerts
